National Children’s Dental Health Month
As parents, we all may have experienced some frustrations getting our little ones to brush properly. We all understand the importance of oral health, especial for youngsters. Keeping teeth clean helps to prevent tooth decay and alleviates other future orthodontic problems. But, it also prevents other long-term conditions such as periodontal disease and halitosis. The American Dental Association (ADA) has created National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM).
Every February, dental professionals, and educators take the time to teach our kids about proper dental health. Learn how to start healthy habits today…habits that will last a lifetime. It’s never too early to start. The national observance lasts all month and serves to bring together dedicated dentists, healthcare providers, teachers, and parents all to promote and educate on the benefits os good or health to kids around the nation. An Important Message
Over the years, The National Children’s Dental Health Month’s message has reached millions across the country in many different communities. The ADA’s goal is creating and improving habits and discipline, including regular visits to the dentist. The hope is that the combined effort will help kids get a jump start on long lasting good dental health, including both the teeth and gums.
There are so many reasons why this type of observance and celebration is important. Even though tooth decay is preventable, it is the most common chronic disease found in children. The good news? There are safe and effective ways to prevent this and protect kids’ teeth. The NCDHM informs and reinforces effective preventative measures:
- How to thoroughly brush using fluoride toothpaste.
- The benefits of dental sealants in preventing tooth decay.
- Information about community water fluoridation.
- When and how to teach proper tooth flossing.
- Better snack alternatives to prevent tooth decay.
