National Children’s Dental Health Month
The month of February has been deemed the National Children’s Dental Health Month by the American Dental Association, with a campaign created to assist parents in learning more about children’s dental health. This year their slogan is Sugar Wars. At Tooth Fairy Smiles, we want to educate about how good oral health in children can help to provide quality overall health as the mouth is connected to other health problems.
From cavities to decay and bacteria, good dental health can eliminate all of these issues, helping children to be strong and healthy. A child needs to brush their teeth at least twice a day for a total of two minutes. Flossing should take place once a day or more. Supervision is recommended for children brushing their teeth to ensure proper technique and care for their teeth.
It is important to be on the lookout for tooth decay in baby teeth as it can spread to the permanent teeth. Having your child brush their teeth each day can help avoid such issues. It is important to make sure that your kids have clean teeth before bed, so they do not have sugars or food items affecting the teeth area during the night.
Poor oral hygiene can lead to poor overall health later in life. Teach your children to care for their teeth at an early age so it becomes a habit rather than a chore. Have your child see a dentist, such as Tooth Fairy Smiles, for regular check-ups. By being proactive with oral health, you avoid having any further issues in the future. Your children will have beautiful smiles that they will be proud of as adults and practice good oral health with their own children.
